Dark Side
Tales of the pendent
Prologue
The dull howling sound of the wind stormed through the citied walls of Madlley Soles. Dusty clouds covered the blacken sky. The citied lights glared back at the sky; staring at the shadows of a monster. The midnight darkness hid the true form of the being that stood high up on one of the biggest roofs in the city. Slowly, the sounds of its breathing echoed through out the town. Smoke crawled its way down the streets and alleyways.
Grr… how did this happen to me? Melantha thought looking upon the smoke that wrapped around her and rushed down the road. All the humans around her panic from the sudden appearance of the smoke. She knew what was and would come from this. She was told that she would make sure that it happened as they requested. She didn’t care of the plan or the job, but the price was right. The chance for freedom at the cost of a whole city didn’t seem like much to her.
“Just about done. Move on to job number 44 kill all,” she spoke into the mic, digging into her packet, pulling out a small pill. She stared at it, wondering if it would really do what they said it would.
“Group leader Miss. Death to command leader Melantha.”
“What?” she asked putting the strange pill back into her pocket.
“I sense something odd coming your way. It human, but different some how.”
Hmm… the young vamp thought licking her lips. She could feel the taste of death in the air. A playmate seemed to have come to play with her…
Chapter 1
The cool ocean breeze brushed against the wanderer cheeks. Its been so long since he’d seen the sunset against the sea surface. Orange, red, yellowish colors mixing into the water plane; reflected a beautiful silhouette of the darkening world. His silk pants brushed up against his legs, feeling the winds touch the outer parts of his skin. The man turned his back to the view, finding other view enter his sight. It was something he hadn’t see in a long time. Something he’d thought would never see again. However, different from what he remembered it to be.
The dull metal chain that hung from a neck of a human. The sliver chain formed into a circular pendent like shape. His dusty brown eyes widened at the sight of the ancient demon jewelry. His legs lost all will power, crushing into the sandy ground below him. His body shook uncontrollable: flashbacks of the past shot into his visions.
“Noo!!!” he screamed without mercy. His shaken hands covered his eyes as the bad memories rekindled themselves.
“What?” the mysterious young lady asked, coming to a stop. “Who was that?” It didn’t take long for her to find where the voice came from. “Just a crazy bum. Too bad too. He’s ruining the view from the ocean.” She stepped towards him one by one until her steps turned into a dash. Quickly, without warning a green bladed katana swept through the air.
The young man noticed just in time to watch the blade skim across his skim. He leaped back still feeling where the edge of the blade touched his skin. His hands slowly moved, the sleeves fell to his elbows and he smiled at the young woman. He didn’t know if it was a good thing now not to have his swords with him.
“Pss, lucky bum. Get out of here before my blade meets blood,” she said sounding disappointed that he wasn’t dead or fighting back. The man could clearly see the pendent now and it wasn’t an illusion. It’s the same pendent he wore until the fencer shattered it in their fight. The powers it holds is unlike any he’d ever seen in one object.
“Nice necklaces, way is sure a cute lady attacking random people?”
“Get running along before I attack again.”
“Yes, thank you for your kindness. By the way my name is Niku; I’m a samurai for a group called Tasogare.”
“Like I care!” she snapped, turning her back away from him. Her lightweight martial artist sweatpants flowed gently in the man’s face. He watched her walk away taking careful notes on what she wore, how she walked, and where she was going. Tracking people wasn’t his best skill he knew, but he figured that he’d be able to find her again. Wearing a black short-sleeved shirt and blue judo pants seemed easy enough to find.
He stood still for a long while thinking about his next move, what should he do? It was a question thought long a hard about. He turned away choosing to stare at the nighttime sea. The moon rippled on the ocean surface and the tide seemed high. Niku sat at the foot of the waterline viewing the sight of Flyfish hovering over the sea surface catching their food before landing back in the water. I wonder what Zorlo would do. Maybe if I could reach him he’ll come help me. The young swordsman thought forcing on the water. But I don’t know how I reached him last time.
“Damn it! Why can’t people be easier to reach when you need them?” The man grabbed on to his Rosy pants angry; not being able to reach the fencer and not sure on what to do.
I finally reached a level not many can get and have no idea how to use it. He laughed at his own thoughts.
I need to do something before she gets too far ahead. All man, Nikudemon thought again rubbing the top of his head almost pulling on his nighttime hair.
He paced back and forth unsure what to do about this. He never thought about one topic for so long, but it was important to him.
I could try the same thing I did last time. I can’t say it would work. He thought finally willing to think about trying something. “Yeah, it’ll work hopefully,” he said walking over to the shoreline. He glazed at the moon feeling the wind brush against his clothes before taking a seat on one of the nearby rock.
The cool smooth surface reminded him of his days in training. He sat on many odd things back than just to relax his mind and body. The young swordsman’s eyes shut viewing only darkness; he took shallow breaths of air. He could smell the salty sea air now that he forced more on the things around him. He heard the sound of the wind, bug, leaves, and finally the sea splashing into the large boulder.
Zorlo… He called out in his mind trying to summon him.
Zorlo, Zorlo, Zorlo… please get this message, he thought calling out to him. He could feel the change in the wind as the gust of air rushed in front of him.
My friend the fencer where are you? He wondered now starting to see visions of white a vast plane of whiteness befell under him as he found himself hovering above the light.
Zorlo!? He questioned trying to look down at the white field.
Yes… Nikudemon what is it that you want my friend?
Fencer I’ve found something interesting that you must come and help me with. It a pendent! One like my, but it hasn’t controlled the owner yeah. How long will it take you to get to the seashore of Lufre?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Niku, my friend, no one has told you yet? The fencer asked with deep remorse echoing throughout his voice. It shocked the young swordsman to hear such a voice come for the fencer.
What wrong fencer? You don’t sound well. It worried him to hear the sad sounds entering his ears. The swordsman heart race waiting for his friend reply. He had a feeling he wasn’t going to like the news he heard next.
Nikudemon, I’m dead…
WHAT!? That not funny ZORLO! Now what really going on?
I’ll really gone Niku. I can’t help you with the girl you met, but I’ll tell you-
No, stop it! It not funny at all. You can’t be dead! If you died than that’ll mean that, that, I won’t be able to fight with you again. What would I do without my friend and rival around?
Listen Nikudemon, catch up with the girl. Find her and take the pendent back at all cost. The pendent is a weapon that shouldn’t be used. Find it, take it, and break it.
“Right Zorlo,” Nikudemon said with a tear dropping from his cheek, “I’ll find her and take back the pendent at all cost.”
The samurai rose from the rock glaring at the ocean water. He wasn’t happy with the news of his friend, but he had other duties calling him on. He’d miss his friend until he meet him again, but for now finding the girl was his mission.
Stepping off the rock Nikudemon noticed something resting one his left side of his body. “Solana!” the swordsman yelled shocked that it came to him. It has been so long since his sword had last done that. “Where Nevin?” he asked knowing his other sword wasn’t anything special. “I guess he couldn’t make it.”
Reaching for Solana’s hilt, his other sword popped up to his side. His eyes rolled over to glance at the other sword unsure on how it got there. It was as if both his swords read his mind. He wasn’t sure, but he all ways thought they had a mind of their own.
“Right,” Nikudemon said gripping Solana hilt and unleashing it from it sheath. The blade howled as it danced and flew through the air. Mass gust of wind flowed from the sword at the tempo quickened with every move of the sword.
In one motion the swordsman sheathed Solana to his side and released Nevin from his side. Nevin swooped up and dove down crashing into the dirt ground. Nikudemon brown eyes glare in the direction of where the girl walked before sheathing Nevin.

Nikudemon strolled into the city of Pillen Grove searching the female he’d met before. He’d followed her foot pints she made in the ground to here. The city was known for troubling characters being around. His gut told him she was up to no good in a place like this. As he walked down the cobble stone road, he saw many famous criminals walking around free. It sickened him how useless the police had become these days.
A group of out laws watch the swordsman walk down the street and talked quietly to themselves. He was becoming famous in the underworld for causing them trouble. He didn’t care want they were planning he had more important things to do.
Glancing around into the building windows he continued to look for the strange girl he meet before. As he continued to walk down the streets of Pillen, the continued sound of clanking of heels followed him down the street. He noticed its been following him for an hour now.
“What you want?” the swordsman asked continuing his search for the stranger. He got no reply at first so he asked again. Still no answer so he turned into an alleyway of the street and stopped down the middle of it. The heeled person seemed to be only a foot away from him.
“Speak, I know your there.”
“….”
Nikudemon took a step back asking nicely again for his follower to speak, but still no answer. “I’ll only say this once more. Tell me why you are following me or die. I don’t have time to play these games.”
“You are as cute as they say,” a sickly voice replied to him. “You’ll be much fun to play with at a later day, but first I have other thing to do.”
“What?”
“Hmm… I guess I shouldn’t have just stayed. You’ll be the most fun out of all the people on my list.”
“List? What list?”
“Don’t tell me you’re dumb. Your friend Zorlo is on here too, but he seem to have died already. To bad I can’t eat him Nikuuuu…” she said playing with him; trying to provoke him. “Later sweetie.”
“What!?” Nikudemon snared angry grapping both his sword, swirling around to attack his follower. However, found no one there anymore. He didn’t know what was going on, but he didn’t like it.
