Dark Side

Tales of the pendent

Prologue

The dull howling sound of the wind stormed through the citied walls of Madlley Soles. Dusty clouds covered the blacken sky. The citied lights glared back at the sky; staring at the shadows of a monster. The midnight darkness hid the true form of the being that stood high up on one of the biggest roofs in the city. Slowly, the sounds of its breathing echoed through out the town. Smoke crawled its way down the streets and alleyways.

Grr… how did this happen to me? Melantha thought looking upon the smoke that wrapped around her and rushed down the road. All the humans around her panic from the sudden appearance of the smoke. She knew what was and would come from this. She was told that she would make sure that it happened as they requested. She didn’t care of the plan or the job, but the price was right. The chance for freedom at the cost of a whole city didn’t seem like much to her.

“Just about done. Move on to job number 44 kill all,” she spoke into the mic, digging into her packet, pulling out a small pill. She stared at it, wondering if it would really do what they said it would.

“Group leader Miss. Death to command leader Melantha.”

“What?” she asked putting the strange pill back into her pocket.

“I sense something odd coming your way. It human, but different some how.”

Hmm… the young vamp thought licking her lips. She could feel the taste of death in the air. A playmate seemed to have come to play with her…

Chapter 1

The cool ocean breeze brushed against the wanderer cheeks. Its been so long since he’d seen the sunset against the sea surface. Orange, red, yellowish colors mixing into the water plane; reflected a beautiful silhouette of the darkening world. His silk pants brushed up against his legs, feeling the winds touch the outer parts of his skin. The man turned his back to the view, finding other view enter his sight. It was something he hadn’t see in a long time. Something he’d thought would never see again. However, different from what he remembered it to be.

The dull metal chain that hung from a neck of a human. The sliver chain formed into a circular pendent like shape. His dusty brown eyes widened at the sight of the ancient demon jewelry. His legs lost all will power, crushing into the sandy ground below him. His body shook uncontrollable: flashbacks of the past shot into his visions.

“Noo!!!” he screamed without mercy. His shaken hands covered his eyes as the bad memories rekindled themselves.

“What?” the mysterious young lady asked, coming to a stop. “Who was that?” It didn’t take long for her to find where the voice came from. “Just a crazy bum. Too bad too. He’s ruining the view from the ocean.” She stepped towards him one by one until her steps turned into a dash. Quickly, without warning a green bladed katana swept through the air.

The young man noticed just in time to watch the blade skim across his skim. He leaped back still feeling where the edge of the blade touched his skin. His hands slowly moved, the sleeves fell to his elbows and he smiled at the young woman. He didn’t know if it was a good thing now not to have his swords with him.

“Pss, lucky bum. Get out of here before my blade meets blood,” she said sounding disappointed that he wasn’t dead or fighting back. The man could clearly see the pendent now and it wasn’t an illusion. It’s the same pendent he wore until the fencer shattered it in their fight. The powers it holds is unlike any he’d ever seen in one object.

“Nice necklaces, way is sure a cute lady attacking random people?”

“Get running along before I attack again.”

“Yes, thank you for your kindness. By the way my name is Niku; I’m a samurai for a group called Tasogare.”

“Like I care!” she snapped, turning her back away from him. Her lightweight martial artist sweatpants flowed gently in the man’s face. He watched her walk away taking careful notes on what she wore, how she walked, and where she was going. Tracking people wasn’t his best skill he knew, but he figured that he’d be able to find her again. Wearing a black short-sleeved shirt and blue judo pants seemed easy enough to find.

He stood still for a long while thinking about his next move, what should he do? It was a question thought long a hard about. He turned away choosing to stare at the nighttime sea. The moon rippled on the ocean surface and the tide seemed high. Niku sat at the foot of the waterline viewing the sight of Flyfish hovering over the sea surface catching their food before landing back in the water. I wonder what Zorlo would do. Maybe if I could reach him he’ll come help me. The young swordsman thought forcing on the water. But I don’t know how I reached him last time.

“Damn it! Why can’t people be easier to reach when you need them?” The man grabbed on to his Rosy pants angry; not being able to reach the fencer and not sure on what to do. I finally reached a level not many can get and have no idea how to use it. He laughed at his own thoughts. I need to do something before she gets too far ahead. All man, Nikudemon thought again rubbing the top of his head almost pulling on his nighttime hair.

He paced back and forth unsure what to do about this. He never thought about one topic for so long, but it was important to him. I could try the same thing I did last time. I can’t say it would work. He thought finally willing to think about trying something. “Yeah, it’ll work hopefully,” he said walking over to the shoreline. He glazed at the moon feeling the wind brush against his clothes before taking a seat on one of the nearby rock.

The cool smooth surface reminded him of his days in training. He sat on many odd things back than just to relax his mind and body. The young swordsman’s eyes shut viewing only darkness; he took shallow breaths of air. He could smell the salty sea air now that he forced more on the things around him. He heard the sound of the wind, bug, leaves, and finally the sea splashing into the large boulder.

Zorlo… He called out in his mind trying to summon him. Zorlo, Zorlo, Zorlo… please get this message, he thought calling out to him. He could feel the change in the wind as the gust of air rushed in front of him. My friend the fencer where are you? He wondered now starting to see visions of white a vast plane of whiteness befell under him as he found himself hovering above the light.

Zorlo!? He questioned trying to look down at the white field.

Yes… Nikudemon what is it that you want my friend?

Fencer I’ve found something interesting that you must come and help me with. It a pendent! One like my, but it hasn’t controlled the owner yeah. How long will it take you to get to the seashore of Lufre?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Niku, my friend, no one has told you yet? The fencer asked with deep remorse echoing throughout his voice. It shocked the young swordsman to hear such a voice come for the fencer.

What wrong fencer? You don’t sound well. It worried him to hear the sad sounds entering his ears. The swordsman heart race waiting for his friend reply. He had a feeling he wasn’t going to like the news he heard next.

Nikudemon, I’m dead…

WHAT!? That not funny ZORLO! Now what really going on?

I’ll really gone Niku. I can’t help you with the girl you met, but I’ll tell you-

No, stop it! It not funny at all. You can’t be dead! If you died than that’ll mean that, that, I won’t be able to fight with you again. What would I do without my friend and rival around?

Listen Nikudemon, catch up with the girl. Find her and take the pendent back at all cost. The pendent is a weapon that shouldn’t be used. Find it, take it, and break it.

“Right Zorlo,” Nikudemon said with a tear dropping from his cheek, “I’ll find her and take back the pendent at all cost.”

The samurai rose from the rock glaring at the ocean water. He wasn’t happy with the news of his friend, but he had other duties calling him on. He’d miss his friend until he meet him again, but for now finding the girl was his mission.

Stepping off the rock Nikudemon noticed something resting one his left side of his body. “Solana!” the swordsman yelled shocked that it came to him. It has been so long since his sword had last done that. “Where Nevin?” he asked knowing his other sword wasn’t anything special. “I guess he couldn’t make it.”

Reaching for Solana’s hilt, his other sword popped up to his side. His eyes rolled over to glance at the other sword unsure on how it got there. It was as if both his swords read his mind. He wasn’t sure, but he all ways thought they had a mind of their own.

“Right,” Nikudemon said gripping Solana hilt and unleashing it from it sheath. The blade howled as it danced and flew through the air. Mass gust of wind flowed from the sword at the tempo quickened with every move of the sword.

In one motion the swordsman sheathed Solana to his side and released Nevin from his side. Nevin swooped up and dove down crashing into the dirt ground. Nikudemon brown eyes glare in the direction of where the girl walked before sheathing Nevin.

****

Nikudemon strolled into the city of Pillen Grove searching the female he’d met before. He’d followed her foot pints she made in the ground to here. The city was known for troubling characters being around. His gut told him she was up to no good in a place like this. As he walked down the cobble stone road, he saw many famous criminals walking around free. It sickened him how useless the police had become these days.

A group of out laws watch the swordsman walk down the street and talked quietly to themselves. He was becoming famous in the underworld for causing them trouble. He didn’t care want they were planning he had more important things to do.

Glancing around into the building windows he continued to look for the strange girl he meet before. As he continued to walk down the streets of Pillen, the continued sound of clanking of heels followed him down the street. He noticed its been following him for an hour now.

“What you want?” the swordsman asked continuing his search for the stranger. He got no reply at first so he asked again. Still no answer so he turned into an alleyway of the street and stopped down the middle of it. The heeled person seemed to be only a foot away from him.

“Speak, I know your there.”

“….”

Nikudemon took a step back asking nicely again for his follower to speak, but still no answer. “I’ll only say this once more. Tell me why you are following me or die. I don’t have time to play these games.”

“You are as cute as they say,” a sickly voice replied to him. “You’ll be much fun to play with at a later day, but first I have other thing to do.”

“What?”

“Hmm… I guess I shouldn’t have just stayed. You’ll be the most fun out of all the people on my list.”

“List? What list?”

“Don’t tell me you’re dumb. Your friend Zorlo is on here too, but he seem to have died already. To bad I can’t eat him Nikuuuu…” she said playing with him; trying to provoke him. “Later sweetie.”

“What!?” Nikudemon snared angry grapping both his sword, swirling around to attack his follower. However, found no one there anymore. He didn’t know what was going on, but he didn’t like it.

Very bold creativity, I'm somewhat amazed by your grammar and punctuation. By all means, post chapter 2.

Chapter 2

The young vampiric girl laid in the muddy ground beaten and chained. Fight still filled her eyes, but her strength gone. Her beautiful purple hair now muddy and dull, flowing across her face. How she got herself into this position was unlike her. She glared into the man’s eyes growling like a wild beast cornered. “Strong one for not having any powers,” he said hovering over her.

“Release me and I’ll show you what power really is,” she snarled showing her fags trying to break the odd spell that bound her arms and legs together.

“No thanks.” He kneed down tugging on her hair getting a better look at her. “You’re going to see the master. You sure know better than running away little slave.” Slamming her face into the mud releasing his grip on her. “If he didn’t need you, you’d be died.”

****

The sound of gunfire shot through the young vamp ears as she jumped up from the cold ground. She growled glaring around to hear were the noise came from. She couldn’t see a thing around her; night had fallen while she spelt. “Grr… damn humans,” she said was the clear hatred for the word humans.

“Kimi, she the next one to kill.”

“What? Me?” The strange girl asked hovering above the young vampire. “Kill me? You didn’t even notice where I was. Does that mean you suck? I wonder.”

“Grrrr, I shall kill you quickly for that!” Melantha shouted jumping for one wall to other. “Weak my A**,” the vamp maiden said clawing towards Kimi. Her collar oddly not shocking her from the pills she’d been given from the odd master.

“Come on,” Kimi calmly spoke flipping back kicking the young vamp higher into the air. “That too easy.”

Melantha swirled in the air and dove down ready for another attack. Kimi stepped out the way and the demon girl crushed the ground beneath them. The stone roof cracked under her as she stood up again. “Not good enough yet,” Melantha growled glaring at the young woman in front of her.

“If you wish to kill me that back join the inner city fight. It a under ground tournament full of strong fighters.” Kimi said flipping back off the roof landing softly on the ground in front of the swordsman she met only a day ago.

“Hi,” she said waving at him as she dashed towards him with her sword. The swordsman shocked to see her pop out in front of him and now attacking him again without warning. He wasn’t sure want to say, but his sword launched out of his sheath. Solana clashed with the odd female’s sword stopping her attack.

“I never did get a good look,” Nikudemon replied to her smartly. Her sword seemed normal enough to the samurai. He couldn’t tell if there was anything special about her blade for the outside. “First,” Twisting his wrist, sending her sword soaring through the air.

“What the?” The young vamp yelled just dodging the blade looking on from above. Melatha felt the hard roof floor as she laid on her butt. She glanced up at the sky watching how high and far the sword flew. “What power?” she said to herself getting up from the ground.

She wiped the little dirt of her ruby dress and looked back down from the roof ledge. Her soft hands touched the cold, rough surface in front of her. She’d never seen a human with so much power before; she wondered how they thought she’ll beat him.

Kimi dumbfound at the sheer power of the man she tried to kill once already. She’d never lost her sword in battle before. Confused at what has happen she stared into the calm, peaceful brown eyes of Niku. Her heart skipped a beat terrified of the gentle man in front of her. The young man took a step towards her watching her careful. He knew of the power she held very well and it has signs to look for. Kimi took a step back feeling for anything she could get her hands on.

“Tell me where you got that pendent?” the swordsman asked swirling his sword around with grace sheathing back by his side. Kimi continued to back away from the swordsman looking for some place to run.

Scared, loneliness, despair all controlled her every action now. Her hand bushed along the brick wall. The swordsman noticed her chest movement increasing more and more as time when on. His friendly smile didn’t seem to be calming her down.

“How about we start with a name than?” The swordsman asked stopping as he took notice of her burning red eyes changing in front of him. They seemed to be losing their color and only bad thing would come from her turning now. He knew this as she watched her slowly leave his sight.

“Enjoyed the show?” He bent down and picked up a small pebble on the ground. “What are you after!?” He yelled tossing the pebble right at the vampire face. Melantha face hurt, she hadn’t seen whatever hit her to dodge it. She glared at the swordsman holding her cheek, “The female name is Kimi, little demon!”

“Kimi? Nice name.” He spoke to himself turning away from the young vamp on the roof. “Going to try a kill me yet?” he asked walking away from her knowing the answer to that question.

Melantha growled in silent; she’d never been so belittled in her life from a human. She couldn’t do anything, but watch the powerful man. His strength and skill level surpassed even her own at its highest level. She could tell just from watching that little show she needed more help to defeat him.

***

“May I help you young sir?” A waiter asked the young man sitting by the fireplace, but in the corner next to the window. The dinning area of the inner was made beautiful out of wood and gem rocks. The floor shined and sparkled from a rare greenish black gem rock. He wasn’t sure what or where it to find, but it did the place wonders. Every lighting source in the place was candle or some other type of open flames. “Sir?”

“I’m sorry,” Niku said, noticing the waiter asking for his order. “I’ll have Root Beer to drink and whatever is the house special tonight.”

“Right away sir.” the waiter replied, before leaving off to get his food.

Zorlo dead, Neko missing and I can’t seem to do anything right now a days. I wonder what has happened to are group that we started so long ago. I get the feeling I am the last member around. Niku thought to himself staring out the window. It begun to rain outside now and he couldn’t see anything really out the window. He sighed continuing to beat himself up for his failure.

“That young man over there at table 6 looks down.”

“He sounds it. I don’t even think he looked over at me when I took his order.”

“Maybe some home made cake will cheer him?”

“I would be careful he doesn’t seem to be in a friendly mood.”

“That why no one notices you Stweert.” The teenage waitress said cutting a piece of strawberry cake for the lonely wander. As she walked over to him, he heard the clicking sound of her shoe hitting the floor.

“What you want?” he asked, glancing his eyes over towards her through the window. She wore one of the most amazing pattered shirts he’d seen in a long time. The green satin the shirt was made out of caught his eye in a big way.

“Cake for the down?” She asked placing it in front of him. “Want to talk about it?” She asked taking a seat on the other side of the table. Niku let her be still feeling like a failure to the whole group. He felt something odd brush up against his shirt. It wasn’t her hand, too hard for that, he glanced to see her caressing his arm with her nails. He thought at first they were fake, but realized they were real. Her pretty French tip nails ebbed away from his arm making it way to his face. He watched her hand move closer and closer in slow motion before snatching her arm and slamming into the cake.

“Stop!” he shouted glaring into her eyes with fury. “I’m not a dog nor am I seducible.”

“Sorry! I was just trying to help.” She twitched in pain from the swordsman grip on her. “Please, you’re hurting me…”

Nikudemon released her arm clearly able to see his hand print around her arm. He didn’t even realize how much strength he used. “Sorry,” he said noticing the male waiter was back with his food. He didn’t even care to eat anymore.

“Here you go sir. Christy, should you get back to work?”

“Yeah.”

“Wait!” Nikudemon yelled “Stay and eat this. I’m sorry for hurting you. That shouldn’t have happened.”

“I can’t. I have to work, but thank you anyway.”

“Well than can you help me with find a young girl about you age later?” He asked really just wanting to make himself feel better for hurting her. “I don’t mean right after work, but in the morning time.”

“Umm…”

“Just say yes. Get whatever you can from him.”

“I guess so. I’ll meet in the morning at sunup, but you better not make me come after you,” she said in a powerful tone. It reminded him a little bit of Ryoko and how she ordered him around.

“Thank you. I’ll let you know who we are looking for in the morning. Oh and before I forget I‘m Nikudemon.”

Pretty good, I like how your writing blends in with today's anime. Could I ask what Anime's inspired your writing? From the looks of it, I'll say Blood and Wolf's rain.

Maybe. I've never thought about it. I normally just write what comes to my mind and try to put it in words. Though, I did like both those shows.

Chapter 3

Where is he at? The young teenage girl asked tipping her foot in the lobby. She glanced up at the clock that hung from the wall than back at her watch. He had her waiting ten minutes already. She grew inpatient and tired of waiting for him. What could he be doing?

“Hey Christy! What you doing here so early?”

She turned around noticing one of the many people she works with at the inn. She smiles waving back at him her bracelets clicking together in the air. “What’s up?’ she shouted back walking closer to him.

“Nothing. What you all dressed up for?”

“Nothing really. I thought it would be good to dress neat for this guy. You know make him feel sorry for what happen last night. I seem to be stood up though.”

“Oh. What his name? I can check and see if he still here,” the guy asked logging in to his computer.

“Nikuuu….” she thought of bit. “demon. Yeah, Nikudemon”

“Ok, so Nikwhodemon?” he asked putting it into the computer.

“Yeah, Nikudemon.”

“Hmm,” the young man mumbled not able to find his name in the computer. “Do you know how to spell Nikwhodemon name?” He asked guessing that was the problem. “Maybe you know his last name?”

“I didn’t ask him for a last name. Actually, I never asked for his name he just told me.” She leaned over the desk to see the screen. “You spelt it wrong fool! It n i k u d e m o n I believe.”

“Ok let try that way,” he replied inputting the way she told him. After a few minutes of searching it popped up with his name. He clicked on the swordsman’s name and looked over his information. “Seems like he is still here. He didn’t check out of his room today. It seems like he hasn’t left his room since he enter it at 12:03 am this morning.”

“How do you know that?” She asked looking at the log times for that room. She’d worked at this inn for two years and didn’t know they could call up the times someone enter a room.

“Everyone get a card to open the door to their room. When they swipe across the lock the door read the time and records it. I’m than able to see if a person has enter or exited their room yet.”

“Great, so what room number he in and can we get in?” She asked, now sitting on the desk staring at the computer.

“He in room 30 on level D hallway 5.” the young spoke, pulling out his card from his pocket. “As for getting in my card can get-” Before he could finish she snatched his card from his hand, jumping down from the table and ran up the stairs.

***

Arriving in front of the swordsman door she swiped the man’s card and heard the lock open. With out a second thought she entered the dark room. It was quiet in the room and she found the swordsman still in bed. Closing the door behind her she walked over to the bed. Reaching the side of the bed she reached over to awake Nikudemon only to find his blade at her throat. She froze watching him uncover himself and looking over at her. His eyes for a quick second showed her a heartless being willing to kill her without resolve.

Nikudemon stared into the female’s eyes seeing her fear. He with drew the sword from her neck and smiled back at her. It was like nothing happen, he got up from bed and walked over, turning on the light. “What are you doing here?” he asked picking up Niven from the table.

“You had me waiting for you. I came to get you!” she said furious with the man being later and acting like nothing has happen. She wasn’t mad about have a sword up to her neck for some reason. She could understand why, but that didn’t seem to bother her.

“Oh, that right I sorry about that. I lost track of time while I was sleeping. I’m glade you can to get me. Now, I’m looking for a female about your age. I know what she looks like and what her name is. When we find her though, I need you to make friends with her.” he said taking the time to look back at her. “Can you do that?”

“Why?” she asked sitting on the bed the swordsman had just slept in. “Why do you need me to make friends with this girl?”

“Because she is afraid of me and I need someone she trusts to help me get closer.”

“So, who is this girl?”

“Kimi is the name she goes by from what I hear.”

She went quiet hearing the name the swordsman spoke. It been a while since she heard that name used around the city. Most choose not to talk about her anymore and acts as if she not apart of the city. “NO! Any girl, but that one!”

“So, you do know of her. I had a feeling this was her home town.”

“That girl is the Demon Witch! Get near her and you’ll surely die!” She said gripping the blanket on the bed and pulling it close to her.

“Demon Witch? So, that what you’ve come to calling her.” he said walking to the girl showing her his hand. “Well it seems like she is a handful for this town. How about you help me and I’ll get her to leave?” he asked kneeing down in front of the young woman looking up into her eyes. “Don’t worry I’ll be watching her every move.”

The swordsman rested his hand gently on her lap waiting for her to response back. It took sometime for the girl to react at all to him after he asked her. He’d just about gave up on her when he felt her nails ride up his hand, covering it and holding it tight. Good god, something is going right for once.

“I’ll do it, but you better not let anything happen to me.” she mumbled in an indecisive voice. It seemed clear to the samurai that the young female had worries.

“I will you don’t have to worry about that,” he said flapping his hand around taking hers into his palm. “Now we must act quickly if we are to find her tracks.”

“Nuu,” she said in a child like voice pulling the man arm back. “First stop is the church house on camphill rd. Their will find father Holie and ask him about Kimi whereabouts.”

“Why would he know where she is at?” he asked unsure who knew more at this point.

“He knows everything there is to know about this city and what goes on in it. Even the Demon Witch can’t make a move without him knowing about it.” she said getting up from the bed letting go of the man’s hand.

Could one man really know everything that goes on in his city? I don’t think anyone could really know that much, but it wouldn’t hurt to try, right Fencer? He thought to himself following the young girl down the street. They’d walked for only a few hours before reaching the old church. As they walked up the steps the doors to the church opened.

“Welcome Mas… Oh, sorry I mean Niku. The Father has been awaiting your visited. Please, follow me.,” A mid aged woman spoke at the doorway. She wore a pure white dress the floated above the wooded floors of the church. As the group walked through the main halls of the church their footsteps echo to the beat of the lords song that played through out the building.

It made the swordsman feel uneasy about the place. He felt a tug on he shirt not noticing they stopped in the middle of a hug room. He glanced around to find nothing, but a older man standing in front of the window.

“So, Niku the demon war lord and master of the pendent. Is that right?”

The swordsman looked confused never heard or been called by that name before. “No. It Nikudemon and I own no pendent.”

“True. The pendent that you held is gone, but in it place comes more problems and riddles. But you are still a master of the pendent power. I can feel it powers still with you..”

“I no longer have it powers, what you feel must be the girl that I looking for.”

“What a fool you are! But you’ll learn of what I speak of one day.”

The old man turned to face them and stepped forward towards them. “If you ladies would leave us two to talk in private”
